AI in Corporate Training: How GCC Organizations Can Improve It

AI can shorten production cycles, expand opportunities to practise, and make workplace knowledge easier to access. Each benefit requires a different design and a different measure of success.

Take this as an example: a customer service employee completes a course on handling complaints. They know the policy and pass the quiz. The next day, a frustrated customer challenges an exception, and the employee is unsure how to respond.

The missing piece may be practice. Another explanation of the policy will not necessarily help them navigate a difficult conversation.

Now consider the L&D team supporting that employee. Its own difficulty may be keeping materials current whenever the policy changes. A manager, meanwhile, may be concerned that employees cannot find the correct guidance during a shift.

These are three different problems: preparing content, practising a skill, and finding information at the moment of need. AI can support each, but the right application depends on which problem is holding performance back.

That distinction should lead the conversation about AI in corporate training. Otherwise, an organisation can acquire more content, more recommendations, and more automated feedback without establishing what any of them improved.

First, separate using AI to teach from teaching people to use AI

AI in corporate training means using the technology to support the design, delivery, practice, or evaluation of learning. AI literacy means developing employees’ ability to work with AI tools.

An AI role-play partner can help a manager practise giving feedback. A course on checking AI-generated analysis teaches the manager to use AI responsibly. The first changes the learning method; the second changes what is being learned.

An organisation may need both. Their objectives and assessments will differ.

It is also worth asking what a proposed feature actually does. A scheduled reminder or fixed learning pathway may use ordinary automation. The evaluation should focus on the function being supplied and the outcome it is expected to improve.

Faster content production helps when revision is the bottleneck

For an L&D team repeatedly updating product or process training, AI-assisted drafting may be a useful starting point.

The team can provide approved source material and ask for an outline, an explanation, a scenario, or assessment questions. When the source changes, AI can help prepare revisions for review.

The benefit comes from reducing production work while maintaining the required quality. Generating a draft in seconds tells the team little about the total effort until it knows how much correction follows.

Suppose a product change affects several learning resources. The review must establish whether the revised explanation preserves the correct conditions and exceptions. It must also check whether the examples still fit the job and whether the assessment tests the intended capability.

A subject expert should approve the facts. An instructional designer should examine how the resource helps employees learn and apply them. These responsibilities can sit with the same person where appropriate, but both need attention.

Measure the time from source material to approved resource, including review and correction. That reveals whether the workflow has become more efficient.

Content production and employee learning remain separate outcomes. A faster authoring process can be valuable even when the learning method stays the same.

Personalisation needs evidence of what the employee actually needs

Once content is easier to produce, the temptation is to produce a different pathway for everyone. The harder question is what justifies the difference.

Employees sharing a title may need different support. One customer service employee understands the product but struggles to explain it clearly. Another communicates well but misapplies an exception.

A useful recommendation should reflect those differences. It needs evidence about the employee’s capability and a clear connection to the task they are expected to perform.

Assessment results, reviewed work samples, and relevant observations can inform that decision. Browsing history or course completion may supply useful signals, but they do not establish proficiency on their own.

When reviewing an AI-generated pathway, trace the recommendation back to its basis. What suggests the employee has this gap? Does the evidence reflect their actual work? What activity would address it? How can the learner or manager correct an inaccurate recommendation?

Then reassess the targeted capability after development. A pathway is only meaningfully personalised if the difference in learning responds to a difference in need.

Role-play expands practice, but feedback must reflect the job

For conversation-based skills, AI can offer repeated opportunities to rehearse before the employee faces a customer or colleague.

Microsoft documents AI-powered LinkedIn Learning role-play within its Learning agent. Learners practise workplace conversations and receive feedback linked to the session transcript, followed by learning recommendations.[1]

The application is useful to consider where employees have limited access to practice partners. A new manager can rehearse feedback. A salesperson can explore a customer objection. A service employee can practise clarifying a complaint.

The quality of the experience depends on the scenario and the feedback criteria. In the complaint example, a fluent response may still promise something the policy does not allow. Good performance may require asking the right question, explaining available options, and recognising when to escalate.

Have qualified reviewers test whether the AI’s feedback recognises those behaviours. Check whether it rewards a convincing conversation even when the employee gives an incorrect answer.

Practice scores can support development. Before using them for consequential employment decisions, the organisation would need a separate evaluation of their validity and suitability.

The next step is to see whether practice transfers: can the employee handle a comparable task with an independent assessor or in the workplace?

A knowledge assistant addresses questions that appear during work

Some performance difficulties arise because employees cannot retrieve the right information quickly enough.

An employee handling an unfamiliar request may need the current procedure and its exceptions. Assigning a course at that moment adds another task without necessarily resolving the immediate question.

A knowledge assistant can help retrieve and explain guidance from approved resources. To be useful, it must select the relevant information, respect access permissions, and make the supporting source available.

Connecting it to internal documents does not settle the accuracy problem. Those documents may be outdated or conflicting. The question may omit information needed to choose the correct procedure.

Start with a limited topic, current materials, and an owner responsible for maintaining them. Test routine questions, ambiguous requests, and questions the available documents cannot answer. Examine whether the assistant recognises missing information and provides an appropriate route to a person.

The relevant measure is time to a correct, usable answer. Speed alone can conceal an error that later creates rework.

Microsoft’s example shows why diagnosis should precede development

In a July 2026 account, Microsoft describes Agent J.ai, a coaching tool designed for its commercial workforce. The team used employee focus groups to identify difficulties such as connecting solutions to business outcomes and communicating with executives. It developed conversational practice around those needs and refined the experience through feedback.[2]

Microsoft also reports that practice conversations were not tied to individual identities, helping employees engage openly.

This is a company-reported implementation, rather than independent evidence that another employer will achieve the same results. Its relevance lies in the sequence: understand the difficulty, design practice around it, address employee trust, and learn from use.

For an L&D team, that sequence is more useful than treating the presence of an AI coach as sufficient evidence of better learning.

In the GCC, language support must be tested through actual work

A demonstration in English cannot establish how well a tool will serve Arabic-speaking employees. An Arabic interface cannot establish that it understands technical vocabulary, mixed-language questions, or spoken interaction.

Build a small evaluation set from the tasks employees face. Include Arabic questions containing English product names, terms used in approved documents, and situations where a condition or exception changes the answer.

Compare Arabic and English explanations for meaning. Check whether numbers, text, and navigation display correctly from right to left. If voice is required, test with the intended users’ speech patterns and working environment.

The SaudiCulture research paper evaluated five language models on Saudi cultural knowledge and reported weaker performance on specialised or region-specific questions.[3] It is not a benchmark of corporate training, technical Arabic, or a particular platform. Its narrower lesson is that general language ability should not be assumed to establish local contextual knowledge.

Local relevance also depends on organisational context. A retail returns scenario needs the company’s policy and escalation process. A business operating across several GCC countries must check that an answer refers to the correct location and business unit.

Access requires its own evaluation. Frontline employees may use shared devices, have limited connectivity, or lack a quiet space for voice practice. Short activities still need time during work. The pilot should test these conditions rather than assuming mobile availability solves them.

Trust and information quality are part of implementation

Employees need to know what happens to the information they provide.

If a manager rehearses a difficult conversation, who can read the transcript? Does the activity influence a performance review? Can the employee challenge feedback? Clear answers affect whether people feel able to practise honestly.

The organisation also needs to understand how the tool handles its materials. Before uploading internal information, establish where documents, prompts, recordings, and logs are processed; who can access them; how long they are retained; and whether they are used for model training.

Assign responsibility for content approval, reported errors, and updates. Confirm that permissions work in the intended workflow and that the tool can be restricted if a serious issue emerges.

NIST’s Generative AI Profile provides a voluntary framework for considering risks and trustworthiness in generative AI systems.[4] It can inform evaluation, while applicable country, sector, and contractual requirements need review by the organisation’s relevant specialists.

These questions should be resolved alongside learning design. Accurate content, suitable access, and understandable data use are conditions for an experience employees can rely on.

Choose the first pilot according to the problem and available evidence

If content updates consume the team’s time, test drafting with current source documents and an approval process. Track the time to approved content and correction effort.

If employees struggle to find routine guidance, test a knowledge assistant on one topic. Check answer accuracy and time to a correct answer, using approved documents and clear access rules.

If the difficulty is conversation practice, test one role-play scenario with defined performance criteria. Evaluate improvement through a comparable task assessed independently of the tool.

If learning recommendations are irrelevant, test personalisation where reliable assessment data and mapped resources already exist. Examine whether recommendations address verified gaps and whether the targeted skills improve.

Each starting point requires different preparation. A pilot should be narrow enough to reveal what works and what maintaining it requires.

Check your existing LMS or LXP before changing platforms. A compatible feature or tool may support the intended workflow. Ask for a demonstration covering learner access, content, evidence, and reporting. Platform replacement should follow the broader requirements, rather than being assumed necessary for an AI pilot.

Measure efficiency, learning, and performance separately

A useful evaluation distinguishes improvements in L&D production from improvements in employee capability.

For production, record the time and cost required to create an approved resource. Track the number and severity of errors and the effort needed to correct them.

For a knowledge assistant, evaluate accuracy and completeness on a defined question set. Include questions that should trigger clarification or referral.

For skill development, compare performance on realistic tasks before and after the intervention. Follow up to establish whether the target behaviour appears at work.

For business performance, choose a related operational measure, such as error rate or time to independent work. Note other changes that may contribute to the result.

Consider an illustrative calculation. If an AI-assisted workflow reduces production time from 30 hours to 18 hours per module, including review, ten comparable modules release 120 hours. The value depends on how that capacity is used. It does not automatically become a cash saving.

The cost calculation should include licences, usage charges, content preparation, integration, Arabic testing, expert review, onboarding, support, and ongoing maintenance. A quick draft or answer can still depend on substantial work behind the scenes.

Where practical, compare the pilot with the existing approach. Agree on acceptance criteria before launch so attractive usage numbers do not substitute for evidence of the intended outcome.

Use 90 days to make a decision, rather than promise a transformation

A 90-day pilot can provide a planning structure, with timing adjusted to the use case and preparation required.

During the first 30 days, select one problem and learner group, record the baseline, prepare approved materials, and agree on responsibilities and acceptance criteria. Establish what data the tool will receive and how success will be assessed.

During days 31 to 60, test accuracy, language quality, permissions, and the learner experience before limited use. Record errors, support needs, and the effort required to keep the experience working.

During days 61 to 90, reassess the targeted task or production workflow. Review costs, employee feedback, and unresolved issues. Decide whether to expand, revise, or stop.

Expansion needs evidence that the intervention is useful and sustainable. More role-play sessions may indicate interest; improved independently assessed performance provides stronger evidence of learning.

What changes for the L&D team?

AI can support drafting, practice, recommendations, and routine knowledge access. These applications leave several essential decisions with the organisation: diagnosing the problem, defining good performance, approving information, and judging whether learning transfers.

The team’s opportunity is to spend less effort on production where AI performs well and more attention on the work employees need help doing.

Begin with a difficulty employees recognise. Choose the application that addresses it. Evaluate it in their languages, their tasks, and their working conditions.

The reason to expand is evidence that the approach improves the intended outcome at a sustainable cost.
